This interview is with Professor Darwin Caldwell. Darwin is Deputy Director of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), and Director of the Dept. of Advanced Robotics.

His research is fascinating. It revolves around humanoids, collaborative robots, exoskeletons and robotics to perform human actions.

Darwin has been a co-author on over 450 papers and has 19 patents. He stays busy. He received his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D in Robotics from the University of Hull in 1986 and 1990, respectively.

Here are something things we talk about:

-Will we have a general purpose robot to cook, clean and do laundry in our homes?
-Can you walk us through how your come up with an idea, start research, capture data, analyze the data?
-What was one of the first robots you created?
-What project are you especially excited about?
